In a few sentences, describe your connection to U2FP, why you chose to run in support of U2FP, and whether you have a personal connection to spinal cord injury and paralysis:
We chose to run in support of U2FP because my stepmom (my dad’s wife) is a C4 quadriplegic. She is a huge inspiration to us and has been “differently abled” for over 25 years. She has written a book about her story and done hundreds of motivational talks. We hope to create awareness through our fundraising and are driven by her passion for life.
Is this your first marathon/race? If not, what others have you completed?
I have completed about 5 marathons. My dad has completed over 100 marathons. We have completed many half marathons and ironman races together.
What do you crave after a long run?
Burger & chips & milkshake, or Biltong.
Do you listen to anything when you train or race? If yes, what?
Not really, just some good music when interval training.
What are you most excited and/or nervous about for the marathon?
Excited to do our first Abbott World Marathon Major and first marathon outside of South Africa. Nervous to stay injury free.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Other than running, we enjoy cycling, swimming, and spending time with family.
Anything else you’d like to share?
We decided to do the Chicago marathon in celebration of my dad’s 70 th birthday which is the month before. My twin brother will be joining us from the Cayman Islands. Most of our ironman races in South Africa have also been to raise funds for charity.
