In a few sentences, describe your connection to U2FP, why you chose to run in support of U2FP, and whether you have a personal connection to spinal cord injury and paralysis:
I chose to run the Chicago Marathon in support of U2FP after learning about it from my friend, Jack Madison, who ran with the organization last year. After talking to Jack, I researched more about their mission to advance spinal cord injury research and improve care for those affected, and became inspired to get involved as well. The work U2FP does to advocate for greater awareness and funding is crucial for creating a future where recovery and better quality of life are possible. Running this marathon is my way of supporting their vision and raising awareness for a cause that can make a meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by paralysis.
Is this your first marathon/race? If not, what others have you completed?
This is my second marathon after running the 2024 NYC Marathon. Outside of that one, I haven’t completed any other races however I plan to this year as I prepare for the Chicago Marathon.
What do you crave after a long run?
I eat a ton after a long run, but last year I would often finish my runs at Brookfield Place in Battery Park, NYC and get a Strawberry, Banana, Nutella Crepe to eat as I walked home.
Do you listen to anything when you train or race? If yes, what?
I spent a few months last year slowly adding songs that I liked to a “Marathon Playlist” that eventually grew to the amount of time I needed to get me through the race. It was mostly an assortment of rap, hip hop, and house music.
What are you most excited and/or nervous about for the marathon?
I’m excited to raise money and awareness for U2FP, to run and explore a new city, and to add another race milestone to my early marathoning career. As always, I’m nervous about staying healthy throughout training.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
During my free time this past year, I volunteered at Bigs & Littles NYC as a mentor. Additionally, I like to travel, spend time with my Wife (Colleen) and Dog (Moose), and watch redzone on Sundays in the fall.
