In a few sentences, describe your connection to U2FP, why you chose to run in support of U2FP, and whether you have a personal connection to spinal cord injury and paralysis:
My connection to U2FP and spinal cord injury has been through my husband Josh Nix and his adaptive fitness service, Fit 4 Recovery. Fit 4 Recovery has been providing 1 on 1 training to the SCI community for almost 10 years and operates out of our gym CrossFit Hopkins. I’ve seen Josh pour himself into the work he does with his clients and the massive dedication and effort his clients put into every session. We’re all in that space to get fit; we all have goals we want to achieve; we all take inspiration and motivation from one another. It’s a fantastic fitness community, and I’m so proud to be a part of it and to run the marathon to benefit United 2 Fight Paralysis and get closer to a CURE for spinal cord injury!
Is this your first marathon/race? If not, what others have you completed? This is my very first marathon!
What do you crave after a long race? Coffee, then food – pizza!
Do you listen to anything when you train or race? If yes, what? I’m a podcast junky! I love listening to fitness/nutrition/healthy lifestyle podcasts. And comedians. If I listen to music, it’s probably (definitely) Disney!
What are you most excited and/or nervous about for the marathon? I’m super nervous! But also excited. I made a goal when I graduated high school to run a marathon before I turned 30, so I’m only about 10 years late, but still getting it done!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I’m a sucker for a good book and also love settling in with a good movie or series. I also love going to the gym and hanging with my hubs and our dog. My husband and I bought our first home about a year ago – a fixer-upper. So house projects have been our main pastime for the last several months!
Anything else you’d like to share? We have a good handful of people from our gym – CrossFit Hopkins – running for U2FP this year, and I’m so thankful to be a part of a fitness community that is up for a challenge and willing to get uncomfortable and put themselves out there in order to support the SCI community!
